Wow - time flies when you live in a great community like La Grange Park! Many of you remember a very special event that happened fifty years ago, on November 15, 1952. That day was the grand opening of the Village Market, one of the first shopping centers of its kind in the country and a very modern approach to shopping here in the Chicago area. The grand opening turned into a true event - there were balloons, huge give-aways, bands, and a time capsule! Various community organizations made contributions to the time capsule, which was buried at the Village Market with instructions that it was to be opened in 50 years.
Fifty years later*...
Believe it or not, 50 years has passed! The Village is working with Village Market merchants, the schools, various community groups, and the La Grange Area Historical Society to plan an event to celebrate the opening of the time capsule, and to bury a NEW time capsule to be opened in 2052. We hope this will be a true community event, which means we need YOUR help!
