A Rising Rock Star!

La Grange Park native and library user Kyle Andrews has 3 of his songs available on MP3.com: "Inspirational Action Figures"; "talk to me" ; and "defective" .

Hopefully this is the beginning of a long music career for Kyle.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

The Book Sale will be May 17 and 18 this year. The Friends are looking for donations now through May 14. You can bring books, magazines, records, videos, etc. to the Library anytime we're open.

FARMER'S MARKET RETURNS

The Farmer's Market is back! Sponsored by the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Farmer's Market will be in La Grange Park every Tuesday again this summer from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Like last year, it will be in the National City Bank parking lot at the corner of Kemman Avenue and 31st Street.

The Farmers Market will begin May 13 and continue through October 28.

First Annual 4th - 8th Grade Poetry Contest

Our first annual poetry contest was a great success. 35 poems were received. Our Young Adult librarian Samantha Farruggia, and our Children's librarian, Meb Ingold have produced a booklet of all the poems. You can pick up a copy at the Library.

La Grange Park Announces Arbor Day Activities

To celebrate Arbor Day, the Village of La Grange Park is hosting a Tree Planting Ceremony on Arbor Day, Friday, April 25 at 12:30 p.m. The tree will be planted in Memorial Park on the west side of Sherwood Road between Oak and Woodlawn Avenues. The variety of tree to be planted will be determined by resident ballots cast in support of their favorite type of tree. The tree with the most votes will be planted during the ceremony. Ballots are available in the Spring edition of the Village newsletter, “Rose Clippings,” or residents can click HERE and print out and return the ballot. The public is invited to attend the tree planting ceremony.

In today's Chicago Tribune, columnist Dawn Turner Trice, who says she has always loved libraries, plugs the library referenda that will be on the ballot tomorrow.

"Many library systems are doing well and aren't asking for tax increases. Some are doing such bang-up business that they need money for expansion. My focus is on the ones just vying to stay alive."

Don't forget the La Grange Park Library is one of those who have referenda on the ballot tomorrow. Please remember to vote.

New Garbage Sticker Rates Beginning April 1st

Consistent with the residential refuse agreement with BFI that took effect on April 1, 2002, sticker rates are scheduled to increase on April 1 of this year. Prices for both refuse and yard waste stickers will increase from $2.10 to $2.30 per sticker. Stickers are available for purchase locally at Jewel and the La Grange Park Village Hall.

Americas Biggest Readers

So, you think you read allot? If you're not on Book Magazine's List of America's Biggest Readers you don't.
The folks on this list read a dozen, or more books in a week. The No. 1 Reader in America is Harriet Klausner. She says she typically reads two or three books a day.

Klausner has posted more than 4,100 book reviews on Amazon, and there's a guy who's trying hard to beat her. Which wouldn't trouble her at all. "Number one is nice," Klausner says. "But it's not that be-all and end-all of everything." [LISNews.com]

The Library also has a subscription to this magazine. The article is in the March/April issue. If you'd like to receive the magazine yourself - a $50 or higher membership in the Friends of the Library gets you a one year subscripton.
