A Rising Rock Star!

La Grange Park native and library user Kyle Andrews has 3 of his songs available on MP3.com:  "Inspirational Action Figures"; "talk to me" ; and "defective" .

Hopefully this is the beginning of a long music career for Kyle.

There is a free registration required to listen to the songs.

Anyone Get a CD for Christmas?

"If you did you might want to check the box. Apparently a company called Bandlink is selling a technology to CD manufacturers which causes CDs to 'phone-home' when played in a personal computer. Unfortunately the story on Slashdot.org isn't specific about which manufacturers are doing this. Even worse is the fact that, other than a small logo on the CD cover, there is no notification to the consumer. I have heard of click-thru agreements allowing this kind of thing, but no notification at all? This just screams 'Class-Action' suit." [Lockergnome's Bits and Bytes]

I wonder what the company will make of one of these CDs being circulated by a library and the resulting "phone-homes?"

Here's a site that reviews children's music:

Best Children's Music. I don't usually recommend commercial sites, but this one seems to be doing a good job at its goal of "provid[ing] well-researched, parent-approved, teacher-endorsed and kid-tested music recommendations . . . recommend[ing] children's music recordings which are not only appropriate and meaningful, but outstanding in the field."
