Do you have a new baby? Stop by the Children’s Services Department for a Welcome Baby Bag and get your child started on the road to reading!


Dig Into a Good Book!

Come to the Children’s Services Department to register for our Summer Reading Program Dig Into a Good Book! Registration will begin on June 1 for babies through 5th graders.  Starting June 12, come to the library weekly to report your progress and get a different prize from our treasure chest each week. There will also be weekly contests, a raffle and plenty of other fun! Dig Into a Good Book runs through August 1.


Summer Reading Kick-Off Party

All ages

Friday, June 2 from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Let’s kick off our Summer Reading Program Dig Into a Good Book with a bouncy castle, games, an “archaeological dig,” snacks, and our friends from Flying Fox Conservation Fund who will be bringing some digging animals! Fun for all ages! No registration necessary.


Summer Reading Volunteers Needed!

Volunteer in the Children’s Services Department!  Students entering 6th grade and up can register to help out with our Summer Reading Program in June and July. Help kids log their reading, assist with programs, or do odd jobs for the staff – it’s all important work, and we need you! Get more information and a volunteer application at the Children’s Services Desk. Applications are due by May 26.


T-Rexplorers Dinosaur Discovery

All ages, under 8 with a caregiver

Sunday, June 11 at 2:00 pm

Kids can get a glimpse of what it’s like to go on a dinosaur dig in this program presented by an experienced dinosaur fossil hunter! They’ll also have the opportunity to touch a dinosaur bone! Can’t get to the museum? This is the next best thing! Registration recommended.


Story Times

Registration for summer story times will be drop-in on a first-come, first-served basis. See the Children’s Services Desk 15 minutes prior to the start of each story time to sign your child up. The summer session runs from June 12-July 28.

Baby Story Time  

Ages 3-23 months with a caregiver

Tuesdays at 10:15 am or 11:00 am

Babies ages 3-23 months and their caregivers will enjoy rhymes, books, and bubbles!


Toddler Time 

Ages 2-31/2 with a caregiver

Wednesdays at 10:15 am or 11:00 am

Toddler Time is for children ages 2 to 31/2 and their caregivers. Enjoy a variety of great stories from our collection and learn some new songs and fingerplays.


Preschool Story Time  

Ages 3-Kindergarten

Mondays at 10:15 am or Tuesdays at 1:30 pm

We will sing songs, learn new fingerplays, and read some wonderful stories that will help your child on the road to reading. Caregivers wait nearby in the library while children attend.


Family Story Time 

All Ages

Tuesdays at 6:30 pm

Bring the whole family each week to read stories and sing songs followed by an easy craft based on the books.


Bilingual Spanish Story Time

All Ages

Second Wednesday of the Month at 6:30pm                                                

Children and their families will enjoy a small introduction to the Spanish language and Latino cultures through stories, songs, poems, and rhymes!  June 14 & July 12.


Weekly Activities

Book Buddies

Grades 1-3

Mondays from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm & Thursdays from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Beginning readers in 1st-3rd grade, Junior Book Buddies, will meet with Senior Book Buddies, who are in 5th grade and up, to share books and the fun of reading together once a week. Junior Buddies register for one time slot and we will pair you up with Senior Buddy.


Dig In!

Grades K-3 will meet Mondays at 4:00 pm

Grades 4-6 will meet Thursdays at 4:00 pm

See what we’re digging into this week! It could be crafts, it could be science, no matter what it is, it will be fun! Check with the Children’s Services Desk to see what is on deck for this week! Registration required.


Mystery Movie

All ages, under 8 with a caregiver

Wednesdays at 2:00 pm

Bring your own snacks, covered drinks, and a blanket to spread out on the floor. We will have clues throughout the week to see if you can figure out what movie we will be showing! No registration required.


The Bookworms Book Club

Grades K-3

Thursdays at 10:30 am

Join us as we explore exciting picture books and fun crafts! We will have a different theme each week. Registration required.


Read to the Dogs

Grades 1-5

Fridays at 10:30 am

Certified therapy dogs visit the library every Friday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am to listen as you read to them. Readers can sign up for 15-minute time slots to read to our friendly four-footed friends. Sign up in person or by calling the Children’s Desk at 708-352-0100. Registration begins one week before each event.


LEGOS® After Lunch

Ages 4 and up

Fridays from 1:00-4:00 pm

Our enormous collection of LEGOS® will be out in the Activity Room every Friday afternoon during the Summer Reading Program! What will YOU create? No registration required.


Uncover & Discover

All ages, under 8 with a caregiver

Thursdays from 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Drop into our Activity Room each Thursday from 1:00-3:00 pm to see what nature activity we’re uncovering. We encourage you to discover with your child! No registration required.


End of Summer Reading Celebration

All ages

Tuesday, August 1 at 2:00 pm

Get ready to sing, clap, dance and sneeze along during this visit by award-winning musician and author Jim Gill!  Jim Gill’s distinctive music play creates the spirit of a family room and is an invitation to children, parents and grandparents to sing and play together! Registration required.
