Requests for public records shall be in writing and addressed to Freedom of Information Officers. The requester shall provide the following information in a request for public records:

• The requester’s full name, address, and telephone number.
• A brief description of the public records sought, being as specific as possible.
• A statement as to whether the request is for inspection of public records, copies of public records, or both.
• A statement as to whether the records need to be certified.

Children’s Services Reference Assistant

28 hours per week

Rate: Starting at $14.83 per hour DOQ 

The La Grange Park Public Library District is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and reliable assistant for our busy Children’s Services Department. The right candidate will love working with a diverse community in a collaborative environment, with the skills to work effectively independently. We are seeking a confident, hardworking and dedicated individual who possesses extraordinary customer service skills. Evening and weekend work required.

Duties:

• Works the public service desk, performing reference and reader’s advisory services 
• Plans, implements, and evaluates educational and recreational programs for children 
• Assists patrons with technology and other library equipment and resources
• Performs outreach to local schools and community organizations
• May assist with collection development projects as assigned; creates displays as assigned 
• Performs other duties as assigned

Performance Expectations:

• Ability to conduct a successful reference interview 
• Ability to perform responsible internet and database searching 
• Knowledge of technology, including computers, software, and ereaders
• Working knowledge of literature in assigned department
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all ages, in English
• A friendly and approachable manner with the ability to calmly exercise tact and diplomacy in difficult situations
• Willingness to learn new skills and procedures; easily adaptable to change
• A team player who contributes to a positive work environment
• Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry

Qualifications:

• Minimum two years of college; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Minimum one year of work experience in a customer focused environment; library experience preferred
• Employment is contingent upon a background check

Volunteer @ the Library

Volunteering at the Library is a rewarding and fun experience, and a great way to give back to your community! You will join a dedicated group who volunteer for us regularly. They do everything from organizing materials to delivering books to the homebound. To find out more or to sign up, please call 708-352-0100.

Friends of the Library

The Friends provide financial support to the library through yearly membership dues and book sales. The bookshop sells donated items at modest prices and is staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers. The Friends accept gently used books, magazines, and DVDs, and are glad to offer a donation receipt if requested. Support the Friends when you shop at Amazon.com through this link and the Friends will receive 0.5% of eligible purchases.
