The La Grange Park Public Library is looking for a friendly, collaborative, and patient leader for our bustling Adult Services Department. This position supervises a staff of one librarian and three assistants, and spends a considerable amount of time interacting with library visitors. Ensuring welcoming customer service, maintaining vibrant collections, offering engaging and diverse programming, and helping patrons utilize library resources and spaces are priorities of this role. Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates staff 
  • Works at the public service desk, performing reference and reader’s advisory service; places interlibrary loan requests
  • Assists patrons in the use of library technology; trains staff to do the same
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates programs for adults and staff; assigns programming responsibilities to staff and guides them in doing the same
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the departmental collection and the monitoring of the materials budget
  • Serves on the management team and assists with developing, implementing, and evaluating of library policies, as well as both short and long term goals of the library
  • Responsible for the contents of the Adult Services Department page on library website
  • Compiles statistics for monthly and annual reports

 

Qualifications   

 

  • A master’s degree from an ALA accredited LIS program
  • Minimum of two years of library reference work experience; supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of common computer applications and public resources; experience with SirsiDynix is a plus

 

Compensation

 

  • Hiring salary range: Starting at $31.50 DOQ
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Annual paid time off: 5 weeks vacation, 9 holidays, 12 sick days, 3 personal days
  • Enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund

Donations

The library accepts donations of new or gently used materials. Most needed are new, popular, and children’s books in good condition. Donations must be deposited into the green bins across from the Circulation Desk.
