Building Project

Current News

We’re back open in La Grange Park!

Visit us to see your brand new library!

A construction banner and fences are up at our permanent space! We ARE OVERJOYED for our La Grange Park community because when the renovation is complete there will be many benefits. Most importantly, the building’s structural integrity will be repaired by replacing the water-damaged east and west walls, which were improperly constructed when the library was built in 1989. Other needs include deferred maintenance projects like replacing the HVAC system, carpet, and lighting. We are delighted that these repairs can be made to the building due in part to the $574,000 Public Library Construction Act Grant from the Illinois State Library we received in March of 2023. There will be a new look and feel to your library starting in Spring/Summer 2024. However, our desire to serve you at our best will remain the same. We will have more resources to bring to you now that this long awaited building project is underway. #lpplrenovation

“This was a long time coming and we all deserve this!”
"The carpet is so colorful and cozy!"
"It looks beautiful, the color scheme is great!"
“I’m grateful that the YA materials are outside the Teen Lounge, since it allows adults who like to read YA books to browse without disturbing the teens.”
"I loved the Cal Comic! It was a nice way to follow the progress!" These are just a few of the quotes that we captured from our patrons our first week. All these positive comments certainly bring us delight! The library was renovated for our community, and your impressions of the nearly finished product, including all our additional amenities, are part of what tells our story. Complete this card located at the Circulation Desk to let us know how you feel about the renovation. You may be featured in the coming weeks on social media and in our eNews! Moving can be fun! 📦 📚 🌔 Starting our move back to La Grange Park on Eclipse Day was a great kick off. 😀 It also helps when you have wonderful colleagues! As promised, we will be sharing posts all week in honor of National Library Week. We celebrate even though we’re closed until May 6. You’ll get to view what’s happening inside the library now that we are closed. We are grateful we were also outside today for the solar eclipse. It was nice to have this program on such a beautiful day! #NationalLibraryWeek

LGP, by now you should have received a postcard in the mail informing you what's happening with the Building Project. It's exciting news! Cal, our comic mascot, is in a moving truck on his way back to La Grange Park! It’s bittersweet: we’re excited to share our newly renovated building with the community, but it also means Cal will soon say goodbye. He has helped us navigate a complicated building project and smile through it all. We plan to be back at 555 N. La Grange Rd. in La Grange Park, IL on May 6. We will be welcoming you as soon as the doors open. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for any changes to the plan or for additional developments. lplibrary.org/building-project-2/ #lpplrenovation

T minus 3 days and counting until the La Grange Park Public Library reopens!! We are as ready as we're going to be. The GRAND reopening party is in August with the ribbon cutting. Sure there are some things we might have wished were different but the library is BEAUTIFUL! I'm exhausted, have bruises all over my body, and have been fighting with Fed Ex but that's another story. 😂 Next up will be our brand-new furniture towards the end of the month, and we can finally settle in. #lpplrenovation #teamawesome

There are two important dates to remind you of, and they're both happy! We're reopening our building for the first time this Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m. Then, we will have our GRAND reopening on Saturday, August 3. You won’t want to miss this ALL-DAY extravaganza that we plan to begin with a ribbon cutting as we open at 10 a.m. and conclude with an epic parking lot party from 5-8 p.m! Help us get ready by responding to our RSVP (link in bio). lplibrary.org/events2/grand-reopening Our celebration is different from our opening day, because we needed to pick a date for our celebration before we knew when the project would be completed, and we weren’t expecting construction to end over a month ahead of schedule. Everyone is invited. Mark your calendar now!
