Accessibility in the Library

As part of our continued mission to serve as a functional and inclusive community center, the La Grange Park Library has compiled a list of services, materials, and resources currently available to make visiting the library a welcoming experience for all persons.

Building Access

The library is located on public transportation routes, accessible via Pace bus and Metra commuter train, and also offers a parking lot.

 

The front entrance of the library’s temporary location has steps, but an entrance with a wheelchair accessible ramp and elevator is available. Call (877)-487-2232 for directions and staff assistance.

 

Additionally, the library features drinking fountains and welcomes on-duty service animals.

Equipment and Technology

Computers and Printing

All laptops and public computers are equipped with: Magnifier, Narrator, On-screen Keyboard, and High Contrast options. Additionally, stations with 27” monitors are available in the Children’s Department.

 

The public printer/copy machine has an accessibility mode featuring display enlargement and sound settings.

 

Equipment for In-house Use

The Teen Department offers the use of noise-minimizing headphones.

 

The Children’s Department welcomes everyone to enjoy the variety of textures, colors, and sensations provided by its Sensory Bin, as well as the opportunity to borrow a Sensory Bag that includes fidget toys, noise-minimizing headphones, and more.

Programs and Services

Talking Books- The Library of Congress via the Illinois State Library provides audio and braille books via mail to residents unable to read standard print materials. Contact us for more information or to certify an application. 

 

Homebound Delivery- La Grange Park residents confined to their homes may be eligible to receive delivery of library materials every other Saturday through Interfaith Community Partners. Call our Circulation Department at (877)-487-2232 ext. 0 to arrange for delivery.

Reference assistance and material reservations are available via telephone, online contact forms, and in person. 

 

Sensory Movie Showings and Supported Story Times are offered periodically. Please refer to our newsletter and/or online calendar for the most current list of programs.

 

Accommodations- The library accommodates patrons with disabilities attending library programs and events. Please fill out the accommodation request when registering for programs online or call (877)-487-2232 to discuss arrangements at least 7 days in advance.
