Seed Library

Take a packet of native seeds to plant in your garden! First come, first serve until supplies last. All seed packets will be upstairs in the Adult Reference department and are free to take. Please be mindful and only take what you have space to plant. Each packet has enough seed to cover roughly 1-2 square feet and has all of the supplies you need to get planting. You just provide a little water and patience and come spring, native pollinator-friendly plants will begin to grow!

Why plant native plants? Native plants are those which are meant to be a part of the local ecosystem, and these specific seeds are mixed based on some of the midwest’s best pollinator-friendly plants and contain a mix of wildflowers, grasses, and one small shrub variety. Each packet contains a little bit of everything, so enjoy the surprise when spring arrives!

Why plant in the fall? Wildflower seeds need to overwinter in order to know when to bloom in the spring. If planted in the spring, most flowers will remain dormant.
