Trying on the Night Sky: A Live Poetry Reading with Mary McCormack
Mary McCormack, local author, will be reading from her latest book, Trying on the Night Sky. A work of fiction told via poetry, this is a book that brings your attention to the little things and opens the mind to all that is vast – nature, love, the unfolding of a story. McCormack will offer a behind-the-scenes look at her process and how she came to be interested in the power of poetry when used for storytelling. There will be a Q&A at the end. Light refreshments will be served.
Registration required.
About the book:
A gosling scrambling up a riverbank. A sudden rainstorm. A hug between two people who not long ago were strangers. Trying on the Night Sky is a book that brings your attention to the little things and opens the mind to all that is vast – nature, love, the unfolding of a story.
These pages are filled with delight, with wonder. For instance: slow / motion / falling / in / love / with / today. But there’s a balance to the exuberance, a knowledge that each moment is precious, here and gone. Perhaps this is felt most keenly at moments of heightened awareness – in the midst of a passionate kiss, in the middle of a song: so perfect / I’m afraid / of the last note.
This is a book that will make you linger, that you won’t want to end.
